"You're a smart kid, but you need to work on your attitude"... and various versions of this.
Sigh.
Unfortunately, it's not a whole lot better in 2023. Teachers no longer physically abuse children without repercussion (generally & relatively speaking), but they still blame the parents & child when children are struggling.
