I've been struggling with this too! Even worse to me is the fact that both the ADHD and ASD diagnostic criteria in the DSM V are still based on stereotypes. So I have difficulty with emotional regulation, I have sensory sensitivities, and I have social deficits. Is that ADHD or ASD, or both? Who knows, because the DSM still tells me that people with ASD lack empathy, they just worded it a little nicer than before "deficits in social-emotional reciprocity" and a "reduced sharing of emotions". I swear these committes haven't met many Actually Autistic people.
